Blog Post #6 Valeria

Question #1: Thematic Statement for "Trifles": There is no equality for women due to the fact that men are considered the "dominant" gender. Men constantly underestimate women because men believe they have nothing to offer.
Question #2: In "Trifles" there is an exposition when the house is described as well as when the women begin to describe Mrs. Wright's personality and behavior before the incident happened. The rising action happens when Mrs. Peters and Mrs. Hale begin to look back on the relationship between Mrs. Wright and her husband and how much she and her life had changed after she got married. The climax is when they find Mrs. Wright's dead bird and see that it had been strangled which is the exact same way Mr. Wright was murdered. They begin to realize that it was in fact Mrs. Wright who killed him. The falling action is when the women get her things together to take to her in jail and the resolution is when the women decide not to tell the men what they have found.

  1. I think your thematic statement fits perfectly for the story "Trifles". The men do underestimate the women and think they are just dumb and only carte about fruit and house cleaning, etc. And in the end the women find the clue that is the evidence that Mrs. Wright murdered her husband.

  2. I agree with your thematic statement as well. I think that is the whole point of the "Trifles". The women are seen to discover more evidence than the men can because they know how the psyche of a women works. They figure the whole situation out just by sitting in the kitchen. I think that the reason they did not tell the men in the story what they thought was meant to symbolize that they did not feel they would be taken seriously, which is too bad because they basically figured the whole situation out.

  3. Your thematic statement brings up a great point. While the men and running around the house looking for evidence of a break in and what not the women are in the kitchen looking at the fine and little details. They are looking at items most often associated with the women of the house and are able to uncover the murder.
