Blog post #3

Katherine's actions reflect repressed emotions. Despite the fact her husband was unfaithful with another woman, she denied the murder accusations the police had pin pointed on Phair. Katherine loved  Phair very much and chose to go on with their marriage as if nothing had occurred. Their relationship buried any of the lies, the hurt and the despair. Katherine, 9 year later decides to cheat on her husband not because she craved another mans affection but out of curiosity and to vent her emotions. She wanted to feel how it felt to cheat, since she already knew how it felt like to be the one cheated on. At this point in her life (9 years after the event) her repressed emotions came out. I believe Katherine had suppressed everything she felt at the time of the life- changing event, she had to vent somehow. Her affair was her way of venting her repressed emotions.

  1. I like your interpretation of the story. I agree that she did not cheat out of passion or some misplaced emotion. But rather because she wanted to feel something again. Her life had turned so numb, and after losing her job, she had nowhere to focus her attention and escape to. I also believe that that venting was what finally allowed her to resolve the conflict in her mind as to how she felt about her husband.
